about

FutureVibes Music continues its reputation of pushing bass music’s boundaries with the label’s newest release, Alberta – VA Vol. 2. The success of Alberta Vol. 1 was extensive and showed how innovative Alberta’s music bass producers are. A short pause between Volumes 1 and 2 allowed Alberta’s featured producers to collect their best and most imaginative music for FutureVibes’ follow-up release.

Again, on Alberta - VA Volume 2, 18 Alberta artists take listeners on a journey through 17 excellent tracks, showcasing bass music from A to Z. Jake Robertz, John Rolodex, Reflektor, Woofax, SISTER MARY, Keekz, Heymac Giant Ibis, Heklur, Hypsetterz, Internal Frequency, Just Mayhem, KR Dub, LOSTRØNAUT, Sorsari, smol & INNOCENT, and Vies, demonstrate the excellent talent cultivated in the prairies of Canada.

From liquid drum and bass to downtempo, halftime to deep dubstep, diverse low-end subgenres are displayed from cover to cover. Often these genres are associated with overseas artists and UK origins. Listeners don’t necessarily think of Alberta as a hotbed of talent — but they should. Long overlooked by the globe’s musical centres, Alberta Vol. 2 presents up-and-coming and established talent for a release that has a place in any crate.

Edmonton’s Heymac has been hard at work, this time collaborating with one of Alberta’s most renowned producers, Reflektor. Their track, “False Prophet,” embraces dark sounds bringing big bass and early neuro vibes. SISTER MARY, (aka Mark Instinct), brings
a glitchy bass-driven tune, “Rollin,” suitable for flexing sub walls. Keekz’s effort “Therapy” features a synth-forward industrial flavor that harkens visions of dark clubs and early techno influences.
Jake Robertz shows precisely why he’s risen to prominence with “Probability” – a bass track that pairs groove and handclaps with traditionally darker sounds for an unexpectedly upbeat offering that would be at home in any timeslot. Vies has been killing it in 2022, and their tune “Alone” shows why. These guys are two to watch.

Alberta – VA Vol, 2 offers an excellent sample of what Alberta’s creators have to offer the larger bass community. It’s fresh, diverse, and engaging. Alberta – VA Vol, 2 will be available Friday February, 24, 2023
