about

With over 20 years’ experience in the darker side of bass music, Outsider’s dark and atmospheric sounds meld perfectly on Psychopomps’ four tracks, taking listeners on a journey through bass. He aligns with fellow west coast bass producers, Konka, and Greazus, for a collaboration anda remix consecutively, making a strong show of why west coast Canada’s producers have been capturing attention across the globe.

“Psychopomps,” the EP’s title track, kicks off with a wompy bass-heavy riff, setting the tone for theEP. Big bass and a hi-hat infused melody give way to a stripped-down breakdown before the bass takes over again with a weighty sub bass workout for any festival system.

The EP’s second track, “Bad Tings,” commences with classic dub sounds, giving way to a traditional wobbly dubstep smasher. The “bad man ting” sample peppered into the first minute of the track sets the stage for what’s to come, an upbeat (yet bassy) dancefloor pleaser.

“Trus’ Me,” Konka and Outsider’s collabo switches up the vibe of the release with a very dark, very melodic stomper, accompanied by tight percussive elements. Konka has become known for his distorted and experimental sound design, and “Trus’ Me” is an homage to both Outsider and Konka’s signature styles.

Ending with a Greazus remix of “Bad Tings,” the EP switches gears to signature Greazus-style footwork and jungle-inspired cadences. Over the past few years, Greazus, aka Patrik Cure and HxdB, have cemented themselves as Canada’s bass ambassadors. Their work as Greazus, and through their agency Triple A Talent has spotlighted western Canada’s growing talent base and the high calibre of music coming out of the region.
